Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I'm on the 6th day of a shake meal replacement diet (Optislim). Anyone else been on a similar diet? ?
I was wondering how much weight you lost and how long it took for you to stop being so hungry all the time! I'm having three a day plus a few cups of low carb salad/veges.

    • ANSWER:
I just started on Papayamine. It is NOT a diet but a whole food! It helps by giving your body all the nutrition it need and is also a fiber so it digests slower. This keeps you full longer nad removes cravings. I take one shake in the morning mixed with orange juice. Then two capsule a couple hours later. Then another shake for lunch. Then two capsules 20 min. before dinner. I have lost a bunch of weight with this.

  2. QUESTION:
Diet/meal replacement shake brands that taste good?
I'm not a big breakfast eater because, no matter what I eat, I tend to get stomach upset. I get up at 6am but usually can't tolerate food until about 10am. By that time, I'm at work and don't exactly have the time to sit to a nice meal. I wanted to try some of those weight loss shakes but there are so many opinions out there in terms of their taste. I have been trying Slim Fast Vanilla and although it does great to fill me up (it doesn't take much to fill me up), it's kind of a challenge to get down without gagging. The taste is not easily tolerable. So, my question is: are there any similar diet shakes that actually taste good? Maybe strawberry or berries (I don't like chocolate or bananas or peaches or any of those fruit combos...I don't like fruits period). My dream would be to find an awesome tasking vanilla diet shake. Ideas? All past experiences and opinions are very welcome. Thank you

    • ANSWER:
Try Optimum Nutrition's 100% Casein Protein. It has fewer calories, more protein, less sugar, and less fat than a meal replacement shake like Slim Fast. It is very thick, so it is very filling. I've tried their vanilla and chocolate flavors. The Creamy Vanilla tastes like yellow cake batter, and their chocolate (Chocolate Supreme I think it's called) tastes like brownie batter. Mix with water, milk, or soymilk.

Another great protein is BSN's Dessert in Fresh Cinnamon Roll. It tastes like the milk leftover from a bowl of French Toast Crunch. It is sooo yummy. It's a blend of six different proteins, so casein is in there to make it nice and thick.

  3. QUESTION:
Can I use a whey protien shake as a meal replacement shake?
I am wanting to go on a diet and have been looking at meal replacement shakes they are all quite expensive. I would have shakes for some meals and healthy meals at others. Would it be ok if I just used a whey protien shake as a meal replacement if I take vitamins with it?

    Thanks
Is all you get on this page spam now?

    • ANSWER:
      My opinion is No!

Consider this article about whey protein:
      Whey Too Much Protein
      http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/debunking-diet-myths-whey-too-much-protein.html

Eat a nutrient-dense plant-based diet and eat all you want and your body will find it's natural weight.

Read the book Eat To Live by Dr. Fuhrman to get all the details.
      http://shopping.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AjYE1Z8wWWIAezj9FJE4FVtGDSoD?p=joel+fuhrman&did=7

Also some vitamins are unhealthy and could even be dangerous.
      http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/supplements-dr-fuhrman-discusses-vitamins-and-supplements.html

IF you want meal replacement drinks then green smoothies would be the best with 100% natural fruit along with a cup full of kale. You won't get more nutrients and less calories any other way and yes there is protein in kale. Use a machine like the vitamix to make such smoothies. This will retain all the important fiber.

  4. QUESTION:
What is a good diet Meal Replacement?
I am looking for a good meal replacement for me to lose weight. Or just any ideas for me to lose weight pretty quickly. i need to lose around 15-20 pounds if possible. please don't give crap like telling me i should exercise cause i do. i work out everyday and i don't eat shit. so anything good will help! meal supplements have it be a drink, shake, or pills i'm all for it. oh and if anyone knows of some great diet pills that actually work i will be extremely thankful. thank you guys!

    • ANSWER:
Perhaps you could try The Great Australian Diet discussed below.

Created by Australian health guru Dr John Tickell, the Great Australian Diet is touted as a return to natural foods and natural eating patterns. Tickell, an obstetrician turned sports medicine specialist, claims that after travelling the world and studying foods, he has discovered several simple rules which can help anyone lose weight healthily.

He describes the Great Australian Diet as " anti-Atkins, anti-CSIRO " and emphasises the importance of carbohydrates in the diet, saying that the " two most important foods we eat -fruits and vegetables- are carbohydrates". Dr John also criticises the low GI diet because, he says, it frightens people off eating carbs.

The Great Australian Diet is actually rather complicated, and may not be as easy to follow as Dr Tickell seems to think. First of all, he replaces the glycemic index with the HI, or 'Human Interference' factor. This means that foods which have been highly processed, such as salami, white bread and white rice, are considered unhealthy, and are replaced by unprocessed alternatives- raw and lightly cooked vegetables, fish, especially deep water fish and sardines, and small amounts of lean meat. 2/3 of the diet should be composed of vegetables and fruits, and 1/3 'bonus' foods, which are essentially lean proteins, and after the initial two day cleansing period, which is very low calorie, 15 different types of plants should be eaten every day.

Since no calorie guidelines are given, and only vague instuctions to eat 4 or 5 nuts and so on, this may be the downfall of many dieters. After all, its pretty easy to forget how many nuts, seeds and grains you have eaten. It may also be hard for people on busy shedules to keep to such a demanding diet, since eating out is restricted really to grilled fish and an occasional steak and vegetables.

But the Great Australian Diet is much more than just an eating plan. Dieters get points for watching the sunset, hugging their children and other 'coping' activities, and use gentle exercise techniques to strengthen trunk and arm muscles. Walking is also part of the diet, which claims over 91 days to re-educate the body into natural rhythms. One of the selling points for me at least, is the resting weeks- after each three weeks on the diet, there are two weeks when you are allowed to eat freely, and recuperate. However, although it seems pretty healthy, the Great Australian Diet is never going to be voted easiest diet of the year.

  5. QUESTION:
Diets, out of all the diets out there, which have you tried and been successful at?
Meal replacement shakes, diet pills, acai pills, calorie counting, herbal remedies, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc? I would like to know from real people and not just the testimonials on the advertising of these products.
I understand that healthy eating and regular exercise is the best but I am just curious as to if those diets really work.

    • ANSWER:
My goal was a weight number. I am currently three lbs over that goal. I also set the goal of running a pretty grueling mountain marathon. I have never done anything like that before. I missed my target time in the trail race by 13 minutes. Everyone said it is a great time and I can't wait to run again in September to improve it.
While the exercising has been great without question I achieved my results by changing my diet. Almost no prepackaged foods. That cuts out tons of hidden sugar and salt. No fast food. Tons of fresh fruit, vegetables and raw nuts. Lean beef, chicken, pork, lots of beans and brown rice. Iced green tea with a shot of fresh orange or lemon juice. No more full glasses of fruit juice. Almost as much sugar as soda. I focused on lots of fiber.
Now I get to eat my splurge meals on a regular basis. Mine is a chicken fried steak with home fries. What is most amazing is after cutting back on the sugar and salt, simple foods taste really good. I can hardly eat anything I used to. Too greasy and too heavy.
The only pills I take are a basic multivitamin, a fish oil capsule (I hate fish), a 1/4 aspirin, and a calcium supplement. No more pain meds, acid relievers, or allergy pills. I think I started my own health care plan.
Alli is the only over the counter weight loss pill approved by the FDA.
There are only three prescription weight loss medications approved.
Do you think that if any of them REALLY worked we would have a now billion a year industry in "weight loss" supplements?
The big three pharmaceuticals would dominate the market.
Approved or otherwise, none of these weight loss supplements guarantee anything unless you establish a healthy diet and exercise program.
So why not just establish a healthy diet and exercise program and keep your money?
You will be spending somewhere between and per day on a product that is not approved or guaranteed to do anything!
The only weight loss supplement I recommend is a basic multivitamin.
Why not spend the money on a gym membership where you can get some actual value?
I have been researching orlistat, the derivative in Alli. It apparently prevents the absorption of up to 25% of consumed fats in the digestive system. Hence the "oily discharge". One cup of most beans (currently enjoying 15 bean soup with the cold weather) supply you with 50 to 80% of the RDA of fiber plus minerals. This soluble fiber "encapsulates" both fatty acids and toxins in the lower small intestine and colon. So acts similar to the Alli. For about 50¢ a day. Plus it really helps keep the digestive system clean and regular.
Your choice. A healthy diet high in fiber or a healthy diet plus the drug.
I guess I am saying no "diet pill" is worth it but at least Alli is approved.
      Good luck.

  6. QUESTION:
    Meal replacement shake/powder for lunch?
Okay I'm going to try and make this as clear as possible. I'm a 22 year old female college student with PCOS. I'm 5'2 273lbs. I am starting on a diet and exercise plan. The diet will consist of 6 small meals a day. Or rather 3 portion controlled meals and 3 healthy snacks in between. I would like to replace my lunch with a meal replacement shake. My breakfast and snacks give me all the fruit and dairy I need daily.

I've tried to do my research but there are so many conflicting ideas and it seems so many of them are geared towards body builders. What is a good meal replacement shake for women who aren't body builders? Price is a huge factor, (including shipping and handling) per month would be the most I could spend. And yes I have to buy it online so please don't waste my time by telling me to go to the store.

A shake is essential since I will be in class during my designated lunch time and we are not permitted to have food in the class room so please be considerate and don't waste my time by giving me food ideas or by telling me to eat lunch earlier or later. Timing between meals is just as important as every other factor in my diet.

Thanks in advance for those who provide helpful answer :)
Thanks Sanitary, I will definitely check it out. I'm obviously new to this so when the meal replacements said they were for body builders I was worried I'd get muscly lol or get to much of something since my exercise regime in the beginning won't be very rigorous.

  7. QUESTION:
Weight loss and meal replacement shakes...what is the best one?
I am currently looking to lose 90 pounds that I gained during my 2 pregnancies in the past 2 1/2 years. I am wanting to stick to a low fat, low calorie diet that consists of a meal replacement shake of some sort for breakfast and lunch, 2 snacks(a piece of fruit or yogurt...something of that nature) and a lean cuisine type meal with a salad(no dressing) for dinner. I am also doing 45 minutes of cardio/day on top of chasing after my 21 month old son and nursing my 7 week old daughter. Any suggestions? I have tried a few different brands, such as Myoplex Light and a soy protein shake by EAS and did not care for either. I am wanting to stay away from Slim-fast due to the high sugar content. Thanks for any and all answers!

    • ANSWER:
Ew. They taste like chalk... Blah!

Try food. Really, food. They don't have to be high-calorie meals, but you will definately feel like you are eating. Try some whole grains and fruit for breakfast, a sensible lunch of vegetables and lean meat and low-fat dairy products.

I'm worried that you are not eating enough with that diet plan. Even with a low fat, low calorie meal plan, you need at least 1200 calories to prevent starvation mode. With those replacement shakes being near 200 calories, fruit around 50, a yogurt at 170 for the regular, and a lean cuisine at 300 - I only count 950 calories once you add a salad without dressing. Plus, it doesn't look like a well-balanced diet, and you will need more than 1200 calories if you are doing 45 minutes of cardio per day.

You are setting yourself up for two things: First, that you will not see the results you want because your body is starving. Second, that you will be prone to yo-yo because you are not taking the time to work on developing healthy eating habits that will prevent you from gaining weight once you go "off" the diet.

Stay away from gimics... just eat a sensible, well-balanced, calorie-restricted diet and the weight will come off.

  8. QUESTION:
If i go on a celebrity slim meal replacement diet and start doing kickboxing will i start seeing results soon?
Hi, I'm currently 16 and i weight around 60kg and am 164cm tall. I am also female
whenever i ask my parents if they could support me with weightloss they always reply with ýou're perfectly fine!' but they don't know how ashamed i am of my body. they don't know how it feels like to go to a school with girls that make middle size girls like me feel! I was thinking if i start taking celebrity slim shakes as 2 meal replacements and have a salad at nightime, whilst doing kick boxing 4-5 times a week would i see results? or won't the meal replacements work?
for those of you who are thinking, you're only young dont worry about these things, i can't not worry. i get bullied all the time and i don't feel confident going into year 11 like this. I want to become a new me. please help? any helpful tips?

    • ANSWER:
Don't go down the road of meal replacements, you will be left dissatisfied and unhappy with results that will vanish as soon as you go back to your old way of eating and we all know you're not going to live on meal replacements for the rest of your life... All you need to do is exercise 3-5 times a week for at least 45 minutes and the key is.............. Eat properly and eat lots! When you're working hard physically you need to feed your body and if you start eating regularly and right combined with exercise at a young age it will be a simple task to maintain the routine. Veggies and fruit before you exercise and carbs afterwards, by eating the most early on in the day and trying to eat very little near the end will vastly help your metabolism run at its optimal efficiency! The best part about all of this is you wont even have to cut out the treats, yay!!

Though it won't be the instant gratification that eating nothing but meal replacement bars and a few veggies, in the long run you will live a longer healthier life and you will still see results within a month as long as you load up on healthy, filling food and exercise a lot!

Nothing gives instant gratification like the grapefruit and water diet or the cabbage soup diet but, once again, these are quick fixes with no long term solutions.

  10. QUESTION:
Anyone Know About Meal Replacement Shakes?
Ok, so I am starting a very healthy diet, with at least 30 min of exercise (cardio) for 5 days. On the weekends I get a break, but I'll probably work out at least 15 min on Saturday anyway and Sunday will be my "day off". My diet will be of healthy foods and plenty of water and I've done my research on whats healthy and whats not. For those who will say this ahead of time, yes I'm very aware of the fact that most meal replacement shakes aren't really too good for you, but I can afford it. I know it will help me if I can have a nice tasting shake that won't do significant damage to my diet. Does anyone know what is or are the best and most effective meal replacement shakes for weight loss?
Also aware that my diet without the shakes will have a lot of results, but I would still like to know please. Thanks for all the helpful answers! :)

  14. QUESTION:
What are the risks of an all liquid diet?
What are the risks of an all liquid diet? Not like replacing one or two meals a day with a replacement shake, but a nothing-but-liquid diet. I mean, I take vitamins and daily supplements, so I get those from pills, and the shakes I'd use are protein with a few carbs per serving. What would the risks be of this diet?
Only for like 2 weeks to a month though, I just want to loose about 20 pounds to make working out easier.

    • ANSWER:
I lost 50 pounds by just changing my diet to a low-fat, low-protein, low-refined carb vegan diet comprised of mostly fresh foods. This is described in one of many programs described by Dr. Dean Ornish in his book: "The Spectrum"

A liquid protein diet will work, however, it's not healthy according to the research I've found. Hospitals make a lot of money with that program, but it lacks many of the ingredients in a real living foods. You are better off limiting your diet to:

+ Leafy Green vegetables (in a green smoothie)
+ Sprouted beans and brown rice/whole grains.
+ A small quantity of nuts and seeds.
+ Raw or steamed vegetables without butter or margarine
      + Raw Fruits
      + Omega 3 fatty acids
      + Vitamin B12
+ Sunshine on your skin or a small quantity of vitamin D

You should reduce or eliminate milk/dairy, meat, processed foods, and animal proteins. To be safe, you should make sure to take your ideal weight and multiply by 10. Your calorie intake should not go below that number for safety. If you do go below that number, your body goes into starvation mode and you will have real problems losing the weight.

  15. QUESTION:
Isagenix Cleanse Diet--normal to gain weight on the first day?
So, probably being just super paranoid here, but I started the Isagenix Cleanse diet today. It's basically a plan where you drink a cleansing drink four times per day, drink lots of water, and eat up to six little snack wafers if you get hungry. You're supposed to do this for two days, then switch to the next part of the diet, which is protein shake meal replacement.

I'm just a little bit discouraged because, from this morning to this evening, I gained two pounds. Is this just all the water I've been drinking, or what? :/

    • ANSWER:
It depends on how your body reacted of the way you choose your diet. The best diet is don't skip meal and eat healthy foods. Do the exercise regularly to burn fats and just enjoy what you are doing. Don't be paranoid.

  16. QUESTION:
    I am 130lbs and I Want to weigh 120?
But I seem to be eating all the time. I am going back to school soon so I don't eat a lot at school but I seem to have hit the wall. Also I want to go on a meal replacement shake diet for a week to try it out but do they work for losing weight? And how would I go about having them because my mom watches me eat k thanks

    • ANSWER:
It's a good situation since I'm sure your mom wants to watch you eat healthy food. Believe it or not, really good natural food (not highly processed food) can help anyone lose weight. Don't know about the shake thing (which may not go over to well with your mom), but a really healthy diet would.

If you snack all the time, I would suggest fruit and nuts and whole foods like that. For more info, I listed a website I think may be helpful.

What is the best liquid diet to do for rapid weight loss?
I have been doing 3 shakes a day, and I find that it still leaves me incredibly hungry and fatigued.. as well as in a horrible mood from going from eating to not eating. Is there any other liquid diet alternatives that I can trick my body into thinking its getting actual "food" instead of nutritional meal replacement shakes? Any and all help would be appreciated. A couple of truths regarding weight loss:

      - It is not okay to shed weight too quickly. Pace yourself. Try to get 1-2 pounds per week.

      - Even though some food is nutritious does not mean you can eat every thing that you would like. You need to maintain a calorie deficit to lose weight.

      - Exercise has a long term effect. Activity you do now can use calories for a complete day.

      take care

Does the water used to make meal replacement shakes count towards your daily water intake?
My mom got put on a semi liquid diet after chemo (steroids caused weigh gain, and it was cancer of the thyroid, and we all know how that jacks with your eright). I think it's 1/2 liquid, and 1/2 solid - not sure.

Anywho, she hates drinking water. She does it, but she hates it. She has to drink upwards of 10 8oz glasses a day, and I was wondering if the water she uses to put in her shakes counts? (I think shes uses 4 oz to make the shake thick 8oz for a thinner shake) I'm more curious than anything.

And is there any different ways people sneak more water into their day?
EDIT: I'm asking because I drink an obscene amount of water, and don't like many other beverages. So I don't really know how to help in this region. Maybe tea? idk.

    • ANSWER:
yes, she's still getting the water into her body. they have those individual crystal light packs that she could carry with her in her purse and put into her water to make it taste better. tea would also be a really healthy beverage.
i also drink A LOT of water and found out i was washing all my nutrients out, so be careful with that for yourself.

  21. QUESTION:
Why am I feeling sick on and off all day?
For the past week or so I've been feeling a slight stomachache/nausea throughout the day, usually that gets better when I eat something light or drink some water or juice. It just sucks a lot. The only thing I've changed in my diet has been that I've been drinking some those meal-replacement shakes once a day, and not every single day. Even on the days I don't I still feel a little sick. Anyone have any idea?

A couple weeks back I also missed a few birth control pills and have been steady on a new pack maybe that could be the problem? (same kind I've been on for over a year)

    PS: I'm not pregnant.

On a diet where I am cutting all carbs, what do you suggest I eat?
I have been eating lean meats and leafy vegetables but I am having trouble find carb free or virtually carb free foods, my mom said she would buy me anything that isn't too expensive if I just asks her to but I dont know what to ask for. What is a good milk alternative and possibly cereal alternative(even though I know that stuff is all carbs)?
I was also wondering what a good meal replacement shake is that is low in or preferably devoid of carbs? It also has to be inexpensive and available at your average grocery store or GNC. thanks for your time (:

Breakfast: some kind of fruit like a banana or a apple
Lunch: 1 grilled marinated chicken breast and a salad with little dressing
Dinner: 1 grilled marinated chicken breast and also a salad
snack: Fruit or a meal replacement shake.

  24. QUESTION:
How often is too often (peeing)?
Recently, I seem to be peeing every hour - hour and a half. Is this too often? I'm not drinking excessive water, same amount as usual (2 - 3L day).

I use to go several hours without needing to.

The weather is comfortable - it's not hot, not cold.

I can't think of why this is happening?

I am definitely not pregnant, the urine is not dark, it does not hurt to go.

The only things I can think is that I recently started on dilantin (epilepsy medication) and I have lost a bit of weight recently (on purpose) but I am eating healthy (1500 cals) and exercising.

I am not on any crazy fad diets or shake/meal replacement diets or diet pills or anything like that. Just good old fashioned healthy eating (5 small meals a day).

Maybe my body is in fat burning mode or something?

I recently had blood work done (not related to this) but my thyroid was fine and I don't have diabetes or even pre-diabetes. Blood work is all good.

Any ideas? Or is this normal?

I need to cut down on calories and do more exercise, the exercise I can do but I need something to help me cut the calories. Can I use something like that to replace every meal except dinner/lunch? I try to eat as healthy as possible but my parents can't buy me healthy stuff all the time so I end up having to eat what they cook. Any help on this much appreciated!

    • ANSWER:
Whey Protein seems to be popular. Thats for people trying to replace fat for muscle. A trend I guess.

  26. QUESTION:
Emergency! Is there a way to lose 20-25lbs in 4 weeks?
I just found out I'll be going down south for a vacation on Valentine's Day, and I am definitely not in the shape for a bikini. I need to lose a minimum of 20lbs in 4 weeks.
Please tell me how I can do this. I don't want to know that I can't or that it's unhealthy, as that really doesn't matter to me at this point.
I'll take recommendations of meal replacement shakes, diet pills, etc., as well as exercise methods - I can spare up to 2 hours per day every weekday night and all day usually on weekends. Also, I don't drink alcohol (just as a side note).

    • ANSWER:
I would try this workout. At the same time you will be gaining muscule and burning fat. So its awesome.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Two 5 pounds weights.
      * means one 5 pound weight in each hand.

If you don't have two 5 pound weights try using water bottles full of water.

      Workout:
      Stretch
      *20 Bench Press x3
      20 squats x3
      *20 side arm lifts x3
      20 crunches x3
      20 push-ups x3
      *20 lunges x3
      20 leg lifts x3
      Walk for 30 mins
      Stretch

Stretching before your workout helps you not to pull a muscule during your workout.

Stretching after your workout helps you not be AS sore afterward.

I try to do this everyday, but I'm sure you would get results doing this only 2-4 days a week. I recomend everyday.

Eat 1500 calories a day and drink 8 glasses of water daily.

You will lose weight and tone up!

I've lost 6 pounds and I've only been doing it for a week!

You can do it! i know you can!

You will be sore. and it will hurt but you can do it.

Don't be scared to add more excercises of more reps.

      Hope this works for you!

  27. QUESTION:
Liquid diet I'm going to go on a liquid diet ?
I'm going to go on a liquid diet I don't have a juicer but I plan on drinking water n occasionally some 100% all natural juices along with one meal replacement shake a day along w some light excersing like walking will I get any weight loss results? I'm gonna do it so no answes w its bad for me I've tried everything to lose weight and I'm desperate.

    • ANSWER:
      Hello,

I honestly know how you feel, I've attempted everything too. I've tried to starve myself completely. I've tried to drink nothing but water. I've tried to eat nothing but fruit. None of it works. After a while your body just gives up burning calories and fat and goes into starvation mode, which means as soon as you eat again you're going to put weight on. If you're set on a liquid diet, you should try the smoothie diet. It's the only thing where I'm seeing results! You have a smoothie for breakfast and lunch and a meal for dinner. You should still try to keep your 1 meal healthy For example, here is what I have in a typical day:

      Breakfast: Pineapple & Orange smoothie.
Lunch: Strawberry, Cherry & Banana smoothie.
Snack: Half a cup of pineapple.
Dinner: Chicken, Brown rice, Broccoli, Cauliflower.
      Snack: an Orange.
Drinks: Water. I only have one drink of something else a day whether it be a fizzy drink, juice or tea.

Most of everything on there is healthy and as most of them fruits are sweet, it doesn't feel like torture as much and you really don't get cravings for chocolate or sweets. For £6 on tuesday I got 1 Pineapple, 6 Oranges, 1 Punnet of strawberries, 4 Banana's and a huge bag of Cherries. I made 14 smoothies out of that (to last a week) and still had fruit left over to have for snacks. Just freeze them in their portion sizes in zip bags or containers and defrost as you go along!

For exercise, I needed something that gave me some guidance but couldn't afford gym memberships/zumba classes etc. Youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT09bryb0C4&feature=related it's an amazing work out and really has you sweating when you're done. Sometimes I can't manage it all and only do 20 minutes, but every little helps.

I have lost 6lbs since tuesday.
Healthy eating and exercise really do help!
And that's what you need to do, rather than starve yourself.

      Good luck!!

Please feel free to mail me if you want a chat, it might help to have some encouragement!

  28. QUESTION:
I hate myself after i eat anything.?
I've limited myself to 2 meal replacement diet shakes a day, 3 diet pills (oxy elite pros), 2 triple strength fish oil pills, and raspberry pills. If i eat ANY food i feel like im just going to be fat. I'm not fat to begin with but i feel so gross every time i look in the mirror. I hate my body. I've given up soda, or any sugary fruit juices. So my diet consists of these pills, 2 shakes a day, and thats about it. Tonight i ate fish for dinner and string beans and i ran and took two laxatives because knowing the food is there is making me feel 400lbs heavier. I dont know what to do. I feel like IF i eat food, im just going to get fat. If i do eat, i take laxatives. I workout as much as i can, and my job is also very physical and keeps me active running around. I just dont know what to do. I hate how I look and feel about myself. I diet, exercise, and take my meal replacement diet shakes. How can I make this stop? Every-time i pass a mirror and see my stomach I want to cry. I'm 5'8, and 135-130 (i fluctuate). At this point I feel like it has consumed my entire life. I do have a child so my body hasn't gone back to the way it was before i had him...almost 3 years ago. I'm trying everything. Lots of cardio, weight lifting, and all that other stuff. I just HATE the fact that i hate how i look and feel all the time.

    • ANSWER:
please don't do that to yourself. for your weight, youre on the very low side of normal, definitely NOT fat. dont go around thinking "im fat, im fat" all the time. its okay to eat, in fact, what you're doing is probably making your weight rise more than eating healthy foods. eat AND exercise, and youll feel the best you ever have. dont hate yourself after eating. trust me, youll lose weight by eating healthy and what you're doing right now is harming you a lot.

  29. QUESTION:
    Meal replacement .......................?
i have recently been ill with sickness, ( couldnt stop been sick) and i havent eatin properly for about 2 weeks, i have tryed but it makes me sick just the smell of something, but im feeling realy tired and drained obviously from not eating so i was wondering what meal replacement drinks/shakes i could have, because i typed it in but its all for dieting, and i dont realy know what to call it,
    thanks :)

    • ANSWER:
My favorite meal replacement is the Jarrow Formulas Whey Protein powder. One serving (2 scoops) has 18 grams of protein and only about 2g of fat, so it shouldn't make you feel sick. There are chocolate and vanilla flavors, and also unflavored if you want to mix it into juice instead of water or milk.

I ususally make the choc or vanilla and mix it w/ skim milk.

Hint: the powder is very fine so it is best shaken in a bottle or blended. if it is just stirred it might be lumpy.

You can get this protein powder at most health food stores, like Whole Foods. There are also single serving packets if you don't want to commit to a whole container (about )

  30. QUESTION:
    Diet Question?
For the past week and a half, I've altered my diet and lost 15 pounds. I take 3 metrex meal replacement shakes per day blended with some nuts (about 300 calories total per shake), along with water when I'm working out. Will this diet have any long term negative effects on performance? If so, what? My life is centered around martial arts and performance is key. I figure it's got all the protein and vitamins I need per day, not to mention healthy fats from the nuts (almonds). For the record, I'm 6'2'' 189lbs. A few years ago, when I was pushing 240, I started a healthy diet and exercise routine but I got shot off course when I somehow hit A plateau.

P.S. - I'm not looking for any "you dont need to loose weight" stuff. Trust me, I do.

  31. QUESTION:
    Would this diet backfire?
I found on youtube this lady who has lost almost 100 pounds in 2 months on this diet (that she made up) using this "pudding and shake mix" (meal replacement shakes). She has 7 shakes per day to keep her metabolism going and 2 low fat meals plus she worksout and drinks a lot of water.

Anyway, they sell those shakes at Quick Weight Loss Centers and Online, and I was thinking of trying the diet, with a few tweaks.

What I am wondering though is once I lose all the weight (about 50 pounds) and I start eating normally, but healthy of course, will the weight come back?

    Has anyone tried these shakes?

    This is her website:

    http://www.easywayshow.com/index.html
This shake has a lot of vitamins, and I take a multivitamin as well.

    • ANSWER:
I haven't tried the shakes personally, but I know someone that has. The mistake that my friend made was that she went back to eating the way she was eating before she started the diet. She ended up losing a total of 60 pounds over 2 1/2 months, and put back on 40 of it in a little less than a month because of her eating habits.

I would say to make sure that you are getting the nutrition that you need from this diet before you start it (everyone is different after all). If the diet can fit your nutritional needs then start the diet, and when you reach your weight loss goals, slowly wean yourself off the shakes and start eating a normal diet, but try to keep in mind to stick to healthier foods.

  32. QUESTION:
Diet and fitness routine please help?
Hello, I have these questions: How long will I have to continue this until I get the body of my dreams? Also, is this routine going to get me the body of my dreams? Is this routine is healthy?

BACKGROUND: I am around the ages of 14-16 I do not want to give my real age, I am a teenage girl. I am trying to get the body of my dreams, my ultimate goal would be to have a Victoria’s Secret Angel body or a celebrity body in the future after I am all grown up, I am starting now. For right now I want to have a fit, toned, and healthy body. I am naturally slim I can eat junk all the time and never exercise and I will always remain slim So I have genetics, a fast metabolism, and no serious medical problems/conditions on my side. I know that I will NEVER look exactly like them because of some factors do not mention this.

ME: I am 5’0 and weigh 108 pounds. I am NOT fat and I know I am at a healthy weight do not mention that I have an eating disorder, body dimorphic disorder, or mental problems, I do not. I am a size 1 or 2, 32D cup, and I have a little fat on my thighs and on my tummy and I have skinny arms.

MY DREAM BODY: I want a flat and toned tummy, with slim legs, and I want to have toned arms (not muscular) with a nice pair of boobs. I want to get down to 100 pounds maybe?

DIET: I am strict with my diet but NOT in a way that I am depriving myself. If I am hungry I eat if I am full I stop. I do NOT starve myself, I do not overeat, I am disciplined, I have self-control, and I like to write down my meals the night before and I like to prepare my meals the night before. I do NOT eat ANY junk food, meat/fish, and grains. I try to eat meals around 200 calories and snacks around 100 calories. I eat according to my hunger if I am still hungry I eat more, if I am not so hungry I eat less. I usually eat 3 meals with 3-4 snacks. NOTE:I DON’T EAT THE SAME THING EVERYDAY:

Breakfast options: 1.Smoothie. I usually put some fruit with water and ice into my blender and blend it to make my smoothie. My favorite smoothie is my strawberry-kiwi one. I put in some strawberries and kiwi with a tad of juice from an orange (I juice it myself) with ice and water. I also like to add some greens to my smoothie like spinach, or some almond milk, protein powder, or Vitamin Zero, or I mix different fruits and I put my smoothie into a coffee mug and if I don’t finish at home I take it to school.
2.Fruit:I like my fruit in slices for breakfast. I will have like some slices banana or slices of apples or some slices strawberries, etc. or I will mix different fruits.
3.Non fat Yoplait yogurt with like slices of fruit.
4.Hard boiled Egg whites with some slices of fruit.
5.Slim Fast replacement meal bar or shake.

Lunch options: 1.Salad (my lunch is almost always because it’s easy to pack for school.) I DO NOT EAT THE SAME TYPE OF SALAD EVERYDAY. I try mixing it up like I will eat an ice burg salad, then I will make my own with like spinach, shredded carrots, etc. I like to vary my salads. They sell so many different types of packaged salads so I like to vary them or I will make my own.
Dressing: Sometimes I like to add some dressing (homemade) that would something like peppers/grape tomatoes, honey, apple cider vinegar, etc.
With lunch I always tend to have like a side. Sides include: Handful of nuts or seeds or dried fruit or a combination. A handful of sliced fruit, egg whites, or some sliced veggies, like celery sticks, cucumbers, baby carrots, green beans, etc.
2.Slim Fast meal replacement shake or bar.
3.Vegetable soup (Liquid, bought) or soup with actual vegetables like celery, carrots, cabbage, etc which is homemade.
    4.Raw veggies.

Dinner options: 1.Vegetable soup (Liquid, bought) or soup with actual vegetables like celery, carrots, cabbage, etc which is homemade.
2.Steamed veggies usually include, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots.
    3.Raw salad.
    4.Slim Fast replacement bar/shake.
I tend to my dinner with a SMALL side: potatoes or corn, most of the time.

Dessert: Usually some frozen fruit or some Non fat Yoplait yogurt.

Snacks: Slices of fruit, veggies, egg whites. A handful of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, or a combination. Sometimes a Non fat Yoplait yogurt, a Slim Fast snack bar, or a smoothie.

Drinks: Water, green tea, and Vitamin Zero. Sometimes for lunch or dinner I like to add a tad juice from a lemon or an orange (I juice it myself). I don’t drink my calories.

FITNESS: I exercise EVERYDAY. I try to vary my workouts so I wont get bored of them. I love to play sports, run, walk, jog, hit the gym and I have a gym in my house. I have a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, mat, stepper, weights, exercise ball, bands, and weight machines. NOTE: I DO NOT DO THE SAME EXERCISE/WORKOUT.

Monday-Friday: Morning: I usually do about 30-45 min of cardio whether is at my home gym with cardio machines, jog around the park, walk my dog, jum rope etc.
After School/After Noon: I either go to the gym, or my home gym and do 1 hour of some type of cardio then I have my toning session. Sunday + Thursday upper body workout, Monday, Wednesday, Friday core workout, and Saturday + Tuesday lower body workout.

Night: I do about 30-45 min of step aerobics. Stretching: I stretch everyday (each muscle) for about 10 min before ALL my workouts to get my muscles warmed up.

Saturday-Sunday: I do the same thing in the morning, after noon, and at night however, I take a pilates class and a yoga class on Sunday both last 1 hour it’s relaxing. I also may skip my after noon cardio workout to go swimming or with friends.

I am in cross country and in the track team both are varsity. I also, do all the chores around my house. I take Nutrilite‘s (look it up) perfect pack for your health. If you need more info then ask me. Thanks for the help.

  33. QUESTION:
Any food or soup suggestions for protein liquid diet?
I am on a semi-liquid diet. Mostly made up of protein MEAL REPLACEMENT shakes. I am allowed to drink 5-7 shakes a day each only 100 calories and are full of nutritional value.I want to repeat these are meal replacement shakes not protein or whey protein shakes. I eat 1 or 2 whole meals a day. It is approved by my doctor. My usual meals are egg drop soup, chicken breast with chef salad, steak and green beans, organic mexican pizza, or whatever pizza I feel like engorging on :-P But Im getting a little burnt out on the above foods. Do you have any suggestions? recipes? Im trying to eat no so many carbs, more protein, and the meal has to be under 300 calories (better if around 250) and once again the diet is working for me and it is APPROVED by my doctor so please take your diet/dangerous talk else where just because you see liquid diet. All suggestions are very much appreciated! Thank you :)

    • ANSWER:
Jicama, cucumber, celery & radish marinated in sesame oil & hot pepper flakes with rice wine vinegar & artificial sweetener. Make a stir fry with Bok Choy, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, celery, mushrooms, shirataki noodles & your fav meats. I love eggs and could eat deviled eggs every day. You can smother omelets & meats with mushrooms & peppers & cheese. Meatzza - Meatloaf with pizza toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, mozzarella) I prefer very thin sausage patties fried crispy with pizza toppings. Pork rinds & celery sticks are great crunch and can be eaten with dips (avocado/mayo/cayenne is my fav) & tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salads. I love love love my rotisserie and it makes the meats extra tasty. I cook a turkey every couple of months and make soup with the bones (add vinegar to leach minerals) and turkey salads. I'll cube up some turkey meat mix in a couple of raw eggs add cheese (and broccoli after induction) with cayenne powder & nuke a couple of minutes for nearly instant meal. Flax seed should be eaten 2T daily even in induction.

Ground flax seed (2-3 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg - let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. for hot cereal or 2 min. for more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat.

After the 2 week induction, you add 5 grams of carbs per day every week and add a much greater variety of non starchy vegetables. Change your mindset - eat what you like to eat, just adapt it to low carb -
      replace bread with lettuce
      replace pasta with cabbage
      replace rice with cauliflower
      replace potatoes with brocolli
I eat all my favorite Chinese, Italian, even Mexican foods with low carb foods. Cabbage makes an excellent pasta substitute (for me) Make a lasagna with blanched cabbage leaves & thinly fried eggplant instead of noodles. Sugar free pasta sauce over fried cabbage. My fav is chicken cacciatore, I add greens & flaxseed or chia seed for body and also add pizza toppings - pepperoni, mushrooms, lots of mozzarrella. Alfredo sauce is also low carb.

I don't cook often. I usually make huge batches of food & freeze most of it. I cook meats 20-30# at a time (for just me) I have gone into the forums for recipes (especially when I first started low carb) I was shocked that fried "rice" made with grated cauliflower tasted just like it's name sake. Shirataki noodles are traditional in Japanese sukiyaki and low carb. I've heard faux mashed "taters" made with cauliflower & cream cheese can fool non low carbers. "potato" salad using cauliflower instead.

I don't cook much but many recipes abound. Adapt what you've always eaten first (I bet someone has a recipe for it or low carb version) and then start exploring.

Chia seeds sound so expensive but 1# will make 10# food (when you can splurge some - Amazon.com has couple lbs. for shipped to you. I buy mine in bulk - 24# for # with free shipping at getchia.com

I also order off Amazon - Lowrey's Pork Rinds 18 for - they pop like popcorn and are portion controlled.

Faux tapioca - 2 cups of water, 5 scoops of low carb whey protein powder, stir together & add cup of chia seeds, after they have started to absorb the water, add in 2 cans of coconut milk (or cream and added water during induction) & artificial sweetener if you like and mix it all in. Can be eaten after an hour but will be better tomorrow. Cream a pkg. of cream cheese into a can of pumpkin and add to the faux tapioca for an even more nutritious pumpkin pie pudding.

(berries are lowest glycemic) Cheesecake - strawberry ice cream (frozen berries, cream, a stick blender) - pork rinds great crunch - i eat lots of fish for snack (fish "steaks" or mackerel in tins are favs)- avocado/mayo/cayenne dip - olives

      Pumpkin soup
      * 1 (12 ounce) package Jimmy Dean sausage
      * 1/2 cup onion, minced
      * 1 garlic clove, minced
      * 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
      * 1-2 cup fresh mushrooms, chopped
      * 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
      * 4 cups chicken broth
      * 1/2 cup heavy cream
      * 1/2 cup water

      Directions
1.Brown sausage, drain, then add the onion, garlic, Italian seasoning and mushrooms and sauté until done.
      2. Add pumpkin to this mixture and mix well.
3.Then stir in the broth and mix well.
      4. Simmer 20-30 minutes.
      5. Stir in the heavy cream and water and simmer on low another 10-15 minute Taste and add salt& pepper as needed.

  36. QUESTION:
Diet and Exercise to lower body fat?
So i have a multi part question. I have been working out for 5 months now and I have noticed a huge change in my body but I still can not lose my fat around my belly (aka no abs). My workout is usually 3 days of swimming 1 day of an insanity workout and one day of a 20 min ab workout and jump rope. I drink only water and 1-2 cups of coffee with creamer each day. I was eating a lot of bread but am now cutting out all bread so diet will mostly be rice/chicken/veggies/fruit/and non fat Greek yogurt (trying to eat small portions every 3-5 hours).

    My questions
    1. Will removing bread help lose the belly fat? If so about how many months? and after gone if I eat small amounts of bread (aka sandwich r bagel) will i gain it right back?

    2. Would using a Meal Replacement Shake be healthy? r faster results? and any recommendations of a good one?

    3. What r the best veggies and fruit to eat to assist in recovery and weight lose? I eat a lot of peas corn carrots and onions for veggies and banana's, apples, and blackberries for fruit.

    Thanks for any help.

    • ANSWER:
1.) Possibly. if you where consuming more carbs than your body needs then it stores them away as fat.

2.) NO. Forget meal replacement. You can't keep that up your whole life. You want to get abs and keep them.

3.) Corn is more carbs. Cut it out. Eat tomatoes, carrots, celery, cucumber, leafy greens, pinapple, avocado.

      Finally....
Sometimes the trick to getting rid of that annoyinh belly fat is to sleep, add more healthy fat to your diet or increase your cardio workout.

Believe it or not sleeping is very important for healthy succesful weight loss. Make sure you get your 8 hours of sleep and make sure they are undisturbed.

Next try eating more avocado, nuts and fish! They have healthy fats your brain needs which will signal to your body that it doesn't nees to store fat. This will help you burn the fat being stored in your belly.

Finally doing more cardio is going to speed up your metabolism and help you tighten up everything including thoes abs.

  39. QUESTION:
Teen wanting to lose weight/Replacement shakes & Nutrisystem?
I'm looking to lose about 40 lbs, I'll settle for anywhere before middle August. I'm exercising daily for an hour and 15 minutes(give or take). Sadly, I'm merely maintaining my current weight(220+). I've asked my parents(I'm in High School) to assist me by buying healthier foods to stock the house with - they agreed, but never really get around to doing so. So I'm still eating grease and carbs... I wouldn't be able to fit all of my stuff into the fridge with the rest of my family's stuff; I'm considering Nutrisystem(My g-ma hated the taste, so she gave me like 3 days of food, I thought they were ok). I can afford to pay for it, but I'm still looking for other options. I also wanted to know whether or not those "meal replacement shakes" from Beachbody really can replace meals by giving me all the nutrients that I need(with a multivitamin) while low on calories. I'm also considering being like Jared and going on the Subway diet. Could anybody shed some light on these options? Thanks

    • ANSWER:
At the end of the day you need to accept respnsibilty for your own health cant blame your parents. It sounds like you hav the necessary info to lose weight but lack the motivation to make any changes.

You also need to be realistic about things..you are only 15 and the changes you make must be sustainable in the long term..do you plan to stay on the above diets for life??

The changes you make need to be lifelong....

  41. QUESTION:
Is there any reason why parents would feed their 6 month old, Suddenly Slim, Body FX, a weight control bev mix
I recently babysat a 6 month old baby. His parents gave me a product called Suddenly Slim Body FX The label said it is "The perfect Meal Replacement". It is a weight control Beverage Mix. The father said that the pediatrician said it was ok, but I have my doubts. This is what they are giving him instead of formula. This was the first time I met these people.

The baby also has the worse diaper rash I have ever seen. I think it is a yeast infection, but I am wondering if the stuff they feed him is causing it.

Here is a partial list of some ingredients from the company's website.

Suddenly Slim is a weight loss program of diet pills and meal replacement shakes. Body FX. Each contain a large number of herbal ingredients which are common in diet pills, including: garcinia campogia, chromium picolinate, green tea, kola nut, hydroxycitric acid, chitin, dandelion root, cayenne, L-carnitine and many others

Should a 6 month old be consuming all that stuff?

    • ANSWER:
Holy hell no. A baby should definitely not have green tea and kola nut and cayenne... I have no idea what the rest of that stuff is but it is not what a new baby should be eating.

If you're a teenager, tell to your mom and/or dad about this. Something like this may deserve a call to child protective services.

  42. QUESTION:
Question for diagnosed eating disordered individuals or ED specialists (stats included, please read)?
i consider/regard myself as somebody living with some kind of eating disorder, but, of course, i am uncertain because i've never been diagnosed. i know one should avoid self-diagnosis; i just feel that i have problems with food and weight control which may or may not be sub-clinical (ED-NOS?).

i've always been "thin" to my peers, friends, and family--at my highest weight, my BMI was about 19.4 (5'6" & 120lbs); at my lowest, 15.8 (98lbs). i'm now 5'7 and 108lbs (16.9 BMI). my eating habits/patterns, and weight, accordingly, have been fluctuating relentlessly for the past three-ish years (restrict to 600 cals a day + exercise / binge every day for a period of time / fast for a day or two / start over).

i have talked to (other) sufferers (of anorexia nervosa, in particular) and seem to relate strongly to them. i generally feel that i understand these friends' struggles...but then, i do not wholeheartedly believe that i am thin enough to warrant aid or even recognition concerning my behaviors. also, i don't feel that i'm severe enough...i read that a criterion is "refusal to maintain healthy body weight," which applies to me. but sometimes i go weeks at a time just making sure i maintain my weight (i feel relatively "safe" as long as i am under 110 lbs, knowing that i am still quite underweight).

i treat my body as my unfortunate coping mechanism and use "dieting" as a security blanket. the biggest trigger for me is the memory of my childhood sexual abuse (just to clarify: i was the victim), which makes me feel shameful and dirty; through anorexia-or-whatever-this-is, i try to "cleanse" myself by abstaining from food. i have tried diet pills & meal replacement shakes in hopes to aid my weight loss. currently, i intend to and am actively trying to lose weight. i feel that my ideal range is between 86 and 102 pounds (more specifically i think i should weigh 92-97).

my nails are generally brittle and blue-gray in color; i bruise very easily; my lower extremities are near-constantly sore. i also have fine/light "fuzz" on my abdomen and arms (lanugo?) and am very sensitive to temperature extremes (especially hating the cold, which, to me, is anything below 72 degrees F). my period is irregular and occasionally i don't get one for a month or two, but it hasn't stopped altogether. i have been told that all these things may be symptoms to be reviewed.

from your perspective/in your experience, do i have an ED? if so, what is it?

trolls will be ignored. and you don't have to tell me i'm fat: i already know i'm disgusting. you also don't need to tell me i'm too skinny, because that's obviously false.

and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE DON'T TELL ME TO "JUST STOP GOING DOWN THIS MISERABLE PATH." I CAN'T STOP. the mindset which drives me will not leave me.
i get really anxious around food--especially when it's a "surprise" (like if my boyfriend buys me a 'treat' i'll start shaking and getting upset because i am terrified of the IMPENDING CALORIES).

these days (past couple of months) i generally eat 800-1200 calories and burn 300-500, putting my net at 300-900) with one or two binge days weekly (eating till it hurts...2,000-3,000 cals total). binges happen when i feel i need something to numb my wild emotions and consciously stuff myself.
i get chest pains sometimes and occasionally have an irregular/fluttery/palpitating heartbeat.
i chew and spit my food frequently.

    • ANSWER:
you almost for sure have an eating disorder , and it seems very bad already . being sexually assulted is known for triggering anorexia or bulimia , so it makes sense that you could be anorexic. I advise you to seek help from a doctor or therapist asap ! good luck

  43. QUESTION:
How do you put on some muscle while cutting body fat?
I am fairly skinny, 6'1, 165 lbs. I workout a fair amount and am definitely in shape, but I would like to take the next step. I really want to get rid of all of my excess body fat and have as close to a six pack as possible, but I know a lot of cardio will make me lose muscle. I would actually like to add some muscle to my upper body while losing body fat. Is bulking/cutting the only way? I play alot of basketball, and when i do cardio i do HIIT. How often should I be lifting, heavy or light? How many days of cardio? And what about diet? Are meal replacement shakes a good idea? Sorry for the long question but an answer I could follow closely would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much :)

    • ANSWER:
increase your protein intake ALOT! instead of eating 3 meals a day, eat more often and smaller portions. I was in your same situation, same EXACT size too. I currently eat approx 7 or 8 times a day. Egg whites for breakfast (ALOT) what ever through out the day as long as it's healthy and snacks or after workout, tuna salad, chicken salad or egg salad sandwichs great. I'm not one for the weght gainers from GNC and stuff like that. I belive you can get all the same effects from food as long as u know what sources to achieve it from. getting what u need for all parts of the food pyramid is a good start too. Eating your fruits, vegies, grains etc is very important. Try the more portions through out the day.
as far as work out, I do upper body lifting one day, lower body lifting next day, 3rd day do nothng at all, 4th day cardio workout, . Reapeat these 4 over and over. your body does need the one day in that week to repair itself especally after the lifting days and prior to the cardio.
      Good luck.

  44. QUESTION:
    Diet question...Opinions wanted!?
I want to start a meal replacement program (replacing two meals a day with a diet shake and having the third meal a low fat high protein meal) but im wondering if it will work for me? And when its time tot start food again will i just put all the weight back on? Has anyone tried it? What do you think?
    Thanks xx

    • ANSWER:
Of course it won't work - you can't expect to replace 2/3 of the meals you're going to eat for the rest of your life with diet shakes.

People screw this up all the time - they set a target date and an amount they want to lose - then they go on some stupid diet for a few months, but then they go back to that they were doing before they started their diet.

The only way to be healthy is to change your lifestyle - excersize and eat right. That's all, no diet, no calendar, and no scale. Just excersize and eat right.

  46. QUESTION:
I feel so lazy and tired all the time. Why?
I'm 36 years old and for the past 2 years I haven't felt like doing much. I workout about 4 times a week and eat healthy. I have a 6 year old son that is so active and all I want to do is just sit and watch him. I am a little stressed with work.

Here are some facts about me

    - I smoke 2 cigars a day.
    - I will drink 1 to 2 diet drinks daily.
    - I drink almost 1 gallon of water a day.
    - I do the p90x workout about 4 to 5 days a week.
    - I drink 1 or 2 meal Replacement shakes a day
    - I eat chicken and veggies most of the time with the occasional burger and steak once a week for a treat.
    - I work at home and I'm current stressed out with a new project.

I have also been not stressed out and still feel lazy. I thought working out and eating right would help me. I'm a very sharp person and do my online research but this time I am stumped. It doesn't really matter what I do. I got my blood tests back and there are no signs of Diabetes or low thyroid. I thought for sure there was something, but I guess not. Doctor says I am healthy has can be.

I want to have FULL energy like so many people I see. Even men older then me have more energy. Everyone feels like hiking and going out and I just can't bring my self to it. I'm successful and my life is pretty good, same with finances.

I have even lost some weight thinking I will feel better but I'm still experiencing lots of fatigue. Anyway. I think this gets my point across.

    Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
As a person with clinical depression who has to take medicine just to stay awake thru the day, I would love to have half the energy you have.

Your issue is you have a bad case of trying to keep up with the Joneses. Who cares if there are others who do more a day than you? Do the best YOU can do.

  48. QUESTION:
8 pounds in 2 weeks...too much or too little?
Ok, I know this sounds like an insanely stupid question, but here is my situation. I am 5'2" and I now weigh 214 pounds...I am in the process of getting down to 130 pounds( I like having curves!), which I was happy at BEFORE I had 2 gorgeous babies in less than 2 1/2 years. 2 weeks ago I started a diet that consists of a meal replacement shake for breakfast and lunch, 2-3 snacks(yogurt, low-fat low-sugar granola bars, etc) and a lean cuisine or fish with salad for dinner and drinking 64 ounces of water/day at least and working out on an elliptical trainer for an hour 5 times a week making sure I am in my target heart range, which has me burning around 800 calories. I have lost 8 pounds since I started this plan and I am happy for my success(even though I have 84 pounds to go...UGH!) but feel like I maybe should have lost more since I am so obese. Thanks for any and all advice:)

    • ANSWER:
1-2 pounds per week is a good, reasonable goal. If you try to lose more, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. One pound is equal to about 3,500 calories - if you try to lose 8 pounds in two weeks, thats 28,000 calories that you must burn off or cut from your diet! That is quite a lot!

Sparkpeople.com is a great website that allows users to establish goals, track their diet and exercise, and be healthy. 49. QUESTION:
Is this a good diet or needs some changing?
With 16% body fat I have decided to go on a diet to lose that 4-6%body fat. So I have been eating really healthy lately for like a week or two.

My diet consists of salad(lettuce, carrots, radish, broccoli, etc.) with ranch, fruits like oranges, apples, strawberries, etc. and if i get a little hungry I take protein shake for meal replacement. And in the morning cereal like rasin bran, Kashi go lean crunch. if i ever go eat outside i eat subway veggie delite. I also take some vitamin tablets to get my daily vitamins as well.

Is this a good diet or need to change it a little. If so how should i change it... If I am on a football team will that provide me with good cardio with practices twice a week. i also workout 3 times a week. I just need to get down to 10-12% body fat. If u have any experience please do tell me. how long would this goal take to accomplish usually.

Thanks for all your help and support!!!

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

I thought I would give you some pointers I have learned the hard way from my own bad 'uninformed' choices.

What I have learned to do is the Adkins type of high protein diet without the fats, simply because of my gallbladder - biliary - pruritus - hives diseases that break out whenever I eat nuts or olive oil or dressings or other fats.

What I finally learned to do is what is taught in most high school nutrition classes where they teach students to add up all the RDA's [Recommended Dietary Allowances] or DV's [Daily Reference Values] for each day of vitamins and minerals from digestible 'food;' i.e. bran is not included in this analysis since it is not digestible for humans and is like a horse eating straw instead of digestible grass or alfalfa. I also know that synthetic vitamin supplements are more toxic in the long term than beneficial to any animal, and mineral supplements are super toxic since they are 'metallic' minerals and oftentimes raw fertilizers that have not yet been converted via photosynthesis into a plant.

What I 'now' eat is a-lot of 12 hour crock potted beef heart and round steak, then mixed with tomato sauce and boiled celery to make a quick microwave super high protein chili. I crock pot since my digestive system is in such poor shape and I need as many nutrients as I can get out of the semi-expensive foods I buy. I have also learned to always eat enough vegetables to be a minimum of 2 x the weight of the meat that I eat - in order to not have any constipation or worse. I used to have reddish stools since I was likely on my way to getting colon cancer from eating much more meat protein than I could ever digest properly in my stomach and colon.

In the past I tried to replace the beef or chicken in my chili with lentils, since the nutritional content ranks high alongside, and comparable to, very lean meat if it is grown in well fertilized soil. [Note: e.g. store bought spinach that is labeled appears to sometimes have a 4 fold difference in nutrition based upon the quality of the farms it is grown on.] But I have then tended to eat too many calories and subsequently gain weight. Even so, in the future I will likely try to become more of a 100% vegan in order to eliminate any cholesterol from being processed through my biliary system since it has been seriously diseased in the past and is the health issue that is presently my greatest concern. To do this I will have to monitor my weight and excessive lentil calories more closely.

I also eat a-lot of boiled frozen broccoli and boiled organic or re-washed and re-boiled canned spinach with a vinaigrette of honey OR sugar with glass_bottled_cider_vinegar. The glassware is because of some friends that got lupus from eating too much plastic stuff, or inhaling it since they were house painters who used vinyl paints.

The nutritional DV numbers that I now eat are three times what most others in my family are eating every day. I keep at about 100% and they are about 25 to 33%, but they are all morbidly obese diabetics. After I had my own heart attack and pruritus hives from gallbladder and my liver-biliary failures, I am now more fit in comparison to most others. People can lose weight with stimulate drugs like nicotine or caffeine or most other alkaloids, and can even lose weight on alcohol or beer if you burn more calories than you take in, but while being thin the result is inevitably various diseases since our bodies are not made to be forced to run on its adrenaline all the time when it is trying to burn off excess carbs or to 'sweat-out' or 'eliminate' toxic stimulate drugs all the time.

The main nutritional numbers and eliminating toxins are the story to good health.

      Good health to you. [(-:]

PS Boiling spinach can reduce the pesticides from 80 to 95%+ as per canning studies done in the 70's, by boiling the pesticides off with the steam - after boiling it long enough to pull the pesticides out of the plant. Boiling also reduces the hundreds of percents of acid carbs, like folic acid, that makes eating a lot of raw spinach not digest easily and it would sometimes cause loose stools, and also breaks it down a first step so it is then easier to digest in the stomach. It also kills any bacteria or e-coli problems that may have somehow been introduced into the raw or commercially canned produce.

  50. QUESTION:
How can I lose the tummy, bum and leg fat FAST?
I'm not at all interested in spending money on protein shakes, meal replacements and all those other chemist diets. I just want to lose the fat effectively and fast.

    • ANSWER:
There are alot of things that you can do to lose that kinda problem areas. If you have access to and indoor pool, i would highly recommend that as a first look at excercise. Swimming allows you to work every muscle in your body and really all you have to do is change up the swimming style. Plus, its low on sweat and heat and it allows for your joints to be less stressed. Also, if you are planning on eating nutritiously, think about drinking ice cold beverages, this allows for your body to heat up the water for use, allowing for you to burn more calories. Lemon detox works, yes, but its hard to maintain weightloss afterwards. I did it to get a jumpstart, not as a primary tool for weightloss. Good luck!
